Learning HTML & More...
One thing that I get asked a lot is how did I learn to make websites. It's one question
that I usually don't have the patience to answer as most of the questions include
requests for me to teach them what I know. The reason I don't have the patience is
that I just don't have the time to explain to every person that asks me this question.
Well, it was suggested recently through email that I type up a little informative
article about how I learned to do what I do. Hopefully by creating this article, I
can answer the questions that people ask of me on a daily basis.
Well, the easiest way to answer this question is also the shortest way to answer
the question of how I learned what I did. I taught myself. It's a simple as that.
Back in 1998 I decided I wanted to learn how to create websites, so I purchased
a basic HTML book and read up on what can and cannot be done with websites. I
grew from there.
What you see here on the site is mostly just HTML with some style added here/there.
It's the basics of what any person can do with a little design work. There is much
more to the world of HTML; but, most people just want to know the basics. My personal
suggestion to anyone that wants to learn to do what I have displayed here on this
site is to try to teach themselves.
Now, most of the people that ask me the question (of how I learned what I learned) want
me to teach them what I know. They usually don't like the response that I taught myself
everything and that they can too. It seems to me that most of the people are just
seeking a quick means to an end. Unfortunately, I cannot be that quick means to an
end for those people. What I have done for those people is create mini guides here on
this site. They are not elaborate by any means; but, these guides can help some
get a better grasp on the little things that they do want to know.
HTML Guide |
CSS Guide
There are also many other sites out there that offer more details tutorials on how
to do neat things with HTML & CSS. If you don't know any of those sites, I would
suggest visiting a search engine for "HTML Guide" or "HTML Help" to fine what
you need. I sometimes use search engines when I want to do specialized things. There
are a lot of helpful places out there. I'm sure you will find that the most rewarding
work is learning everything on your own. When you learn everything and create a
website, you can step back and be proud. You created a website on your own.
You taught yourself; and, you put it together. What better thing to do than do
create something you can call 100% your own.
I'm sure some people are disappointed with this little article of mine; but, I've
answered the questions that I am usually asked. I taught myself everything I know. And,
I already have a few little guides on this website that can teach people a little of
what I know. I promise that those guides will continue to grow as I find time to put
more pieces of my knowledge to "paper" for your use.
